Making the game

The game jam's theme was a list of sentences / phrases you could choose to base your game off of. There were quite a few phrases that jumped out to me but I decided to go with "Drill bug". Originally, I just wanted to chuck a drill on-top of a bugs head and run with that but my pal thought I meant a bug holding a drill. At the time I had a few jobs around the flat I needed to do that required a drill and I thought how bad a job I usually do when doing DIY, how much worse would a bug be.

Thus bug with a drill was born. To begin with I just liked the idea of the bug just drilling holes into everything, but I realised how would the bug traverse the level. Hence the shelf was born, I mean not actually I imagine the shelf was invented centuries ago but within the context of bug with a drill.

With Game Jams I want to try new things and push myself, so for this jam I decided my game needed to be 3D. I opened up blender and got to work referencing tutorials as I went. I definitely have gotten better at 3D modelling BUT UV unwrapping and texturing remains a mystery to me hence why most of the objects in this game are block colours. I also decided to use GDScript instead of C#, my thinking was GDScript was made for Godot why fight the engine and it's intended tools just because I know C#. I also had a go at making some β™« π™Όπšžπšœπš’πšŒ ♬, creating a basic drum beat and making a rap. If you've played the game you will have seen the intro advert which I had an absolute blast making and believe it or not was one of the last things I did.
